Spiced cauliflower steaks

An interesting take on a steak!

1 cauliflower
2 onions
1 lemon squeezed
1 chilli
1 garlic clove
1 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cumin

Preheat oven to 220°C/Gas 8. rip the leaves off the cauliflower, then slice the base so it sits straight on the board.

Take a slice roughly 2cm off each side, then cut the chunky middle bit into 2 halves. Pop the cauliflower steaks in a large roasting tin. (Keep the sides an any broken florets for another meal).

Peel the onions and slice each one into 6-8 wedges. Place in the roasting tin, around the cauliflower steaks.

Halve the chilli, removing the seeds and membrane for less heat. Finely chop the chilli and place in a bowl with the lemon juice and stir in 1 teaspoon each of the turmeric, ground cumin and cinnamon. Add a pinch of salt and pepper and mix well to a paste.

Spread the spice mix over the cauliflower and onion wedges until everything is well coated. Place into the oven and roast for 20 minutes or so, till crispy and slightly charred around the edges and a knife pushed in meets slight resistance.

Serve with with a side salad, potatoes or rice.
